A February Vizcaya Sacramento wedding calls for a palette with warmth in it, and Addison and Teddy chose burgundy. Set against ivy-covered walls, soft ivory, and the stately lines of a historic midtown mansion, the deep red carried from the bridesmaids’ dresses to the bouquets to the groom’s tie. It was a celebration with their closest friends and family, and the palette stayed cohesive from the first getting-ready moments to the last evening light.
Getting Ready in Burgundy and Ivory
The day began in soft window light. The bridesmaids wore flowing burgundy gowns, and when the bride turned to face them in her Wtoo by Watters gown from Sonora Bridal Loft, their faces said everything. A loved one stood close to fasten the buttons down the back of the gown, while hair by Katie Lee Kyle and makeup by Highlights of Molly kept the look polished and soft. The finishing details were quiet ones: blush beaded heels, a lace garter, and jewelry from Mejuri and Lindsay Marie Design.
The groom wore a gray plaid suit with a vest from Men’s Wearhouse and a deep red tie from The Tie Bar. His groomsmen matched him in gray vests and the same red ties, so the burgundy of the bridal party was answered on the other side of the aisle.
A Garden Ceremony Before an Ivy Wall
The ceremony took place outdoors on Vizcaya’s red brick terrace, in front of a wall of ivy. A white arbor draped in soft, sheer fabric framed the couple, with a sweep of blush, peach, and burgundy florals by Amour Florist and Bridal gathered at one corner. The wedding party lined up on either side, and guests watched from white chairs a few steps away.
There was music in the middle of it, a guitar played for the couple as the groomsmen stood beside them, and an unhurried kiss beneath the arbor to close the ceremony.
Portraits in the Gardens and Courtyard
Afterward, the couple stepped to the front of the mansion, where the columned entrance, clipped hedges, and wide stone steps made a formal frame for a bride in tulle and a groom in plaid. The full wedding party gathered along the ivy wall in an easy, laughing line, burgundy against green.
As the light dropped, the garden changed. String lights began to glow behind the couple, drinks were in hand, and an ivory wrap kept the bride warm through the last of the portraits. February evenings in Sacramento turn cool quickly, and the soft, low light was worth the wait.
An Evening Reception Indoors
The celebration moved inside, into warm, golden light. The couple cut a three-tier cake with textured white frosting, finished with burgundy and blush blooms that echoed the bouquets, from Go West Baking and Events. The color story that began in the getting-ready room carried all the way to dessert.
Why Vizcaya Works for a Winter Wedding
Vizcaya, at 2019 21st Street in midtown Sacramento, is a historic landmark with Victorian architecture, a columned entrance, and landscaped gardens that photograph well even in the cooler months. Indoor and outdoor spaces are both available, so a winter wedding can move between a garden ceremony and a warm interior reception without losing its rhythm.
Planning a Winter Wedding at Vizcaya
Lean on the venue’s event team. Vizcaya offers in-house event planning and catering, and its team can help coordinate decor, lighting, and the flow of the day.
Plan around the early sunset. February light fades early in Sacramento, so schedule garden and courtyard portraits for the afternoon and keep the ceremony time in mind.
Choose one bold accent. A neutral palette with a single rich color, like burgundy, photographs beautifully and ties every detail together.
Before the wedding, the couple celebrated with an engagement session at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco. Planning a celebration in the Central Valley? See this harvest-hued fall wedding at Wine and Roses in Lodi.
