Two days after saying “I do” at San Francisco City Hall, Chanel and Marcus traded marble halls for the open coast. Their Big Sur honeymoon session was everything they love in one evening: a winding road, a vintage Porsche, film cameras, and the wild light of the Central Coast.
Why a Big Sur Honeymoon Session
Chanel and Marcus never had a traditional engagement session, so this was their chance to create relaxed, personal portraits that felt nothing like a continuation of the wedding day. They love the outdoors, road trips, and film photography, and Big Sur gave them all three, with Highway 1 unspooling along the cliffs and Bixby Bridge waiting around the bend.
A Vintage Porsche on Highway 1
Cars have always been a shared love for Chanel and Marcus, especially Porsche. So for their honeymoon portraits, they brought their own vintage Porsche down the coast. The car was never just a prop. It was the two of them on an adventure together.
Bixby Bridge and the Coast at Golden Hour
The two-hour session ran from 5:00 to 7:00, which gave them golden hour, sunset, and blue hour along the coast. Chanel wore her Galia Lahav gown and veil and Marcus wore his Giorgio Armani tuxedo, the same wedding attire from City Hall, now set against the cliffs. Road closures along Highway 1 made it impossible to stop at Bixby Bridge, so the group parked far down the road and crammed into the vintage Porsche. Chanel and Marcus dropped their photographer at the bridge for a few frames, and the closures cut deeply into the time the evening had promised. The two of them met all of it with joy and good humor. Cowboy hats from Larry Mahan and boots from Paris Texas added an edge of their own.
Planning Your Own Big Sur Honeymoon Session
If you are dreaming of a Big Sur honeymoon session, plan around the light. Late afternoon into golden hour and blue hour gives you the warmest color and the most mood along the coast, and building in flexibility for fog, wind, and parking is part of the magic. Bixby Bridge is iconic, but some of the best frames come from the quieter pullouts and beaches nearby.
