Julia and Derek once snuck into a wedding at Evergreen Lodge. Now it was their turn. Their Evergreen Lodge Yosemite wedding turned the woodland resort at the edge of Yosemite National Park into the summer camp they had always pictured. It was filled with flowers, forest light, and the people they love most.
Over two days, family and friends hiked, played games, and dressed in costume. Then they dressed up for a ceremony beneath the pines. Here is how the weekend unfolded.
A Weekend That Felt Like Summer Camp
The couple wanted their guests to feel like they were at summer camp, and the weekend delivered. Most guests stayed on site, so the celebration unfolded across group activities, hikes, and games. It began on Friday night with a Summer of Love welcome party. Everyone arrived in costume, and the toasts brought real tears.
By Saturday, everyone had traded hiking shoes for heels and dress shoes. The camping resort kept its woodland ease, but it was doused in the most beautiful flowers. It still felt like summer camp, just the most luxurious one you could imagine.
Private Vows and Gifts Worth Keeping
The wedding began quietly. On the morning of, Julia and Derek read their vows to each other in private, before the day belonged to everyone else.
They also exchanged gifts that will last. The bride gave the groom a vintage Rolex, and the groom gave her a diamond-studded tennis bracelet.
The Look: A Custom Choker and a White Tuxedo
The bride wore a lace gown by Galia Lahav from Kinsley Couture. It had a strapless silhouette, a long train, and a flowing veil. She paired it with a custom-made choker designed to match the dress. The high, delicate finish framed her face in the quietest portraits.
The groom wore a white tuxedo jacket with black lapels and a black bow tie, finished with a white boutonniere. It was a graphic, confident look against the greens of the forest. His groomsmen stood beside him in dark suits. Meanwhile, the bridesmaids wore chocolate brown satin and carried white bouquets.
A Ceremony Among the Pines at Wapama Grove
The ceremony took place at Wapama Grove. Wooden chairs lined a grassy aisle edged with white florals, and tall pines rose overhead. A live guitarist provided the music while guests settled in beneath the trees. Then two flower girls in white tulle dresses and floral crowns walked the aisle ahead of the bride.
One seat, saved with flowers, held a place for the groom’s parents. It was a quiet and tender detail within a day full of joy. A family friend officiated, and the ceremony closed with a kiss beneath the bride’s veil.
Forest Details Throughout the Day
Small details carried the woodland feeling across the property. Wax seals finished the invitation suite. A tall gold-framed mirror stood on a wooded path, with florals gathered at its base. Escort cards sat in rows, each one lightly illustrated.
The day also included custom drinks, and guests signed an Ansel Adams guest book, a fitting choice for a wedding at the edge of Yosemite. Generous white and green florals tied it all together, from the aisle to the tables.
A Reception Under Rattan Pendants and String Lights
Dinner took place on the Main Plaza, with tables on the lawn in front of the wood lodge. Rattan pendants hung with greenery overhead. Wooden farm tables carried brown runners, candlesticks, and greenery, surrounded by white chairs. At each place setting, a menu card rested on a chocolate brown napkin.
A tiered white cake decorated with pressed flowers stood ready for cutting, with engraved cake cutters for the occasion. As the evening went on, a live saxophonist played alongside the DJ, and the dance floor filled beneath string lights. For dancing, the bride changed into a second dress with a beautiful feather detail. The bridesmaids in brown satin joined in with the rest of the party.
Planning a Wedding Weekend at Evergreen Lodge
Make it a weekend. When guests stay on site, hikes, games, and a welcome party turn a wedding day into a shared getaway.
Pack two pairs of shoes. A forest setting invites trails by day and dressing up by evening, so plan for both.
Plan around the early sunset. In mid-October, sunset at Evergreen arrives between 6:15 and 6:30. The mountains and trees bring an early end to the light, so build the ceremony and portrait schedule around the afternoon.
Let the florals do the decorating. Surrounded by tall pines, generous florals along the aisle and at the tables echo the setting instead of competing with it.
Earlier in the year, the couple celebrated with an engagement session at Saint Mary’s College, on the campus where they met.
