This sky blue Hacienda de las Flores wedding in Moraga began with a tea ceremony. It ended with a grand exit. In between, two families, two sets of traditions, and around 140 guests filled a historic estate in the East Bay. Because the grounds offer so many settings, the day moved easily from garden to patio to open lawn.

The nine-acre estate pairs Spanish Colonial architecture with neoclassical grandeur. Behind the Hacienda, a large lawn spreads out beneath blue atlas cedars, pines, and willows.

A Tea Ceremony That Honored Two Traditions

The morning began with a ceremony of gratitude. Serving tea is a traditional way to thank the people who raised each partner. First, the couple bowed before their parents and elders and served them tea as a sign of respect. The ceremony blended Chinese and Korean customs, so both families had a place in it.

Then came the paebaek tradition, in which elders toss dates and chestnuts into a cloth the couple holds. The gesture blesses them with good fortune for the family to come. Together, the two traditions became a single ceremony. It was also one of the most meaningful parts of their day.

The Hacienda de las Flores Wedding Ceremony

Later that afternoon, the wedding ceremony took place at the venue’s Gate, in front of the Alfresco Pavilion’s Corinthian columns. Around 140 guests gathered to celebrate. The Pavilion is a semicircular building that overlooks a walled garden with a lawn and patio. Large wrought-iron gates lead into that garden, and flagstone stairs connect it to the upper lawn. Because the garden is walled and secluded, the setting suits an intimate ceremony.

A Sky Blue Reception on the Patio

The reception carried the day’s palette of mist blue and sky blue through the outdoor patio. Handmade stationery and a welcome sign added personal touches throughout. Also, the cake topper took the shape of the couple’s own dog. Because the palette carried through every detail, the whole reception felt cohesive.

Golden Hour, a Song, and a Grand Exit

As the evening wound toward its close, the groom picked up his guitar and played a song for the bride. It was a quiet, personal moment between the day’s bigger celebrations. Afterward, golden hour photos followed, timed to the light over the venue’s hills. Finally, a grand exit sent the couple through a tunnel of guests and into the rest of their life together.

The day followed a North Beach engagement session in San Francisco earlier that year.

Planning a Hacienda de las Flores Wedding in Moraga

Hacienda de las Flores is a historic estate in Moraga, in Contra Costa County. According to the venue, the walled garden holds up to 200 guests. From November through April, a seasonal tent adds weather protection and lowers capacity to 150. Because details like these can change, couples should confirm current policies with the venue directly.

Beyond the garden, the historic Flower Mansion offers a patio with a central fountain. Inside, beamed ceilings and hardwood floors add warmth. Since the grounds hold so many settings, a photography timeline can move between spaces without leaving the estate.
