There is a particular light in Napa Valley. It settles low over the vines in late afternoon and turns everything a little softer, a little warmer. I live just over the hill in Petaluma, and I've photographed in that light, from a garden wedding at Carneros Resort to a proposal inside Castello di Amorosa.

HOW I PHOTOGRAPH a Napa wedding
I photograph with my head up, not buried in a shot list. Most of the day I'm watching for what unfolds on its own: a glance across the table, a hand on your arm, the moment the room exhales after the vows.
When you need direction, you'll have it. Portraits are gentle and guided, never stiff, and always just the two of you, with no audience looking on. I carry a medium format film camera alongside digital, because film renders vineyard light and skin tones with a depth I love.
I take on no more than ten weddings a year, so each couple has my full attention from our first call through the final gallery.

NOTES ON NAPA
When the valley photographs best. Late spring brings soft green vines and mild evening light. September and October bring harvest and golden hillsides, the most photogenic season in Napa, though wineries book early. Summer afternoons run hot inland, so an evening ceremony is kinder to everyone in the photographs.
Planning around the light. The hour before sunset is when Napa glows. I build every timeline around it, so your portraits among the vines happen in warm, low light rather than harsh midday sun. A few quiet minutes away from the reception at golden hour often become the images couples love most.
The one recommendation I make to every couple. Hire a full wedding planner. Napa estates and wineries often have their own rules around timing, vendor access, and transportation, and a good planner handles all of it. That leaves you free to be present, and leaves me free to photograph what matters.
